Meet the Need is Growing

PEOPLE Lived Experience Society is excited to continue growing Meet the Need, a program that creates paid employment opportunities while helping meet practical labour needs in the community.

Meet the Need provides small, supervised teams for short-term and project-based work. This can include clean-up, landscaping, event support, general labour, and other practical tasks that businesses or organizations may need help with from time to time. PEOPLE handles the coordination, support, and supervision, making it a simple and effective way to get the work done.

What makes this program important to us is that it was built around something people told us very clearly: they want paid employment opportunities. People want the chance to work, contribute, earn income, and build stability. Meet the Need is one way of helping make that possible.

Like all of PEOPLE’s work, this program is about more than the task itself. The people doing this work are people with lived experience. They have worked hard to get where they are and to overcome difficult challenges. PEOPLE provides a supportive employment opportunity, and in return these workers show up, contribute, and help strengthen the community in very real ways.

Whether they are cleaning up a site, helping prepare for an event, supporting a landscaping project, or taking on other practical tasks, this is serious work that matters. It helps businesses and organizations get needed work done, and it helps create dignity, purpose, confidence, and connection for the people doing it.

As challenges continue to grow in our community, we believe practical and empowering responses matter. Meet the Need is one example of that. It creates real paid opportunities for people who are often excluded from traditional employment, while also helping meet real needs in the community.

We are currently working to expand Meet the Need and build more awareness of what it can offer. We are looking forward to connecting with more businesses, organizations, and community partners who may be a fit for this work.

If you would like to learn more about Meet the Need, or explore whether it could support your organization, we would be happy to connect.
